In 1933 a little girl fled Germany with her family. After stints in Switzerland and France they settled in Britain, where little Judith dreamed of becoming an author. Years later, in 1968, her dream would come true. That was the year a Tiger Came to Tea.

Judith Kerr would go on to create the iconic Mog series, based on her own pet cat.

She would also write the semi-autobiographical Out of the Hitler Time trilogy, including the beloved When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, and several one-off picture books.

Yesterday, on the 22nd May 2019, Judith Kerr passed away. She has left a beautiful legacy that will doubtless bring joy to children for many years to come. Goodbye Mog, and Goodbye Judith. You will be remembered.

I loved the Mog series as a child, and The Tiger Who Came to Tea is my nephew's favourite story (I bought him the book!) Judith Kerr has indeed left an amazing legacy to be enjoyed by future generations. May she rest in peace 🕊️
